Critical acclaim for Monte Python Rendez-vous Circus

As the curtain went down on Monte Python's Rendez-Vous Circus the critics lined up to applaud yet another successful production shot through with comedy gold. Some of the sketches seen in the Monte Python stage show may be old, but catch phrases such as "This is a dead market!" still bring the house down.

Monte Python

It was always going to be a parade of the greatest hits; everyone expected the Solvency Inquisition ("Nobody expects the Solvency 2 Inquisition!"), not to mention the Actuary Song ("I'm an actuary and I'm OK, I sleep all night and I work all day?") and the Foie Gras shop ("Have you got anything without Foie Gras?"). These are all duly delivered, often ingeniously segued into one another.

The Four Yorkshire CEOs sketch went down particularly well with the millionaire executives competing over who had experienced the toughest times ("Who'd a thought thirty years ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking Chateau de Chassilier wine?/Aye. In them days, we'd a' been glad to have the price of a cup o'Merlot.")

Another highpoint of the show, which takes place every September in the open air theatre of the Caf? de Paris, was the Argument Sketch. ("Is this the five minute argument or the full half hour?/Sorry I've only got time for a five minute argument.")

But the biggest laughs of course are saved for the Ministry of Silly Walks ("Good morning. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting, but I'm afraid my walk has become rather sillier recently, and so it takes me rather longer to get to the Hermitage lobby. It's these new red chinos I'm wearing.
